Paramo

Somewhere above 3,400m, you enter moorland known as the paramo, which has it's own ecosystem and (mostly damp, chilly) climate. Most of the flora here are unique to paramo, found only in the Andes. The frailejones are particularly unusual.  They grow around 1cm a year (some are 3m tall), and never shed their leaves or old flowers.  They also have ready made bonsai bushes, excellent.
