Lost City Kids

The Lost City lies in the heart of land that belongs to the indigenous people of Colombia.  Part of our tour included an awkward interview with one of the elders.  He made no bones about their unhappiness at the park being opened to tourists, calling it a necessary evil.

A significant part of the speech was geared around the inevitable - as the indigenous still have the right to grow coca and produce cocaine for their own use.  As our guide put it, 'The men are outside working all day. Cocaine allows them to have lots of energy without having to eat much during a long day.' Hmmmm...

We regularly passed indigenous on the path, going about their daily business, but greetings were few and pretty sullen.  The kids on the other hand, are delighted to have a few hundred suppliers of sweets and owners of smartphones full of fun games pass through their land each day.  Don't be fooled by the simple dress, some of these little ones were more proficient on a smartphone than we were.
