Dancing with the Stars

Last night out in Bogota and here we are in the world of Vallenato and Merengue. Deeply Colombian, this feels part-fiesta, part cultural education. A friend is dating a Vallenato-singing superstar, called Carlos Mario Zabaleta, who is performing tonight.
As a member of the official entourage, yes, you're expected to be able to dance like a pro. Which I still can't (or even like a beginner).
This is more embarrassing than usual when it turns out my dance partner and Carlos Mario's good friend (we were put together because we have the same hair) is kind of a big deal. Danny Marin - according to his website - is 'the most important merengue singer in Colombia'. This seems to be confirmed by the number of people stopping to take his photo. Cue mortification maximus. I escape to the street, where a passing accordion street-band also recognise Danny. Things swiftly descend into full blown street party, complete with celebrity guest stars.
This is why I love Bogota.
